Zucali Gitarren | Master workshop for guitar construction

There’s no woman so fast asleep that the sound of a guitar wouldn’t lure her to the window. Spanish proverb

2010

This year Daniel will be again on several guitar festivals to expose his guitars and meet "old" and "new" friends.

The following guitar festivals Daniel will visit:

12th International Guitar Festival Rust (Austria) March 8th - April 1st, 2010
Daniel exposed his guitars on the popular guitar festival in Rust for the first time. Famous guitarists like the Austrian-Venezueler Gabriell Guillen, Jorge Cardoso or Dimitri Illarionov gave concerts. Also here Daniel had the chance to get to know many guitarists. For example Juan Francisco Ortiz, who studied under Andres Segovia. The talks with him were very interesting, because Ortis has a huge firsthand knowledge about the world - greatest guitarists from the last generation. With the New Yorker Jim Skinger Daniel spent an enjoyable evening as well.

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010
Daniel and I visited the concert of David Lindorfer and Peter Mayer in the Posthof in Linz. There Daniel exposed his guitars as well. It was a welcome change for me to hear another kind of guitar music. I enjoyed it very much. It was fun to listen even if a less - sleeping mother like me needed a lot of concentration with some Mayer - songs like "Blueturtle Desercaravan".

Friday, April 16th, 2010
Daniel got the chance to expose his guitars in the Brucknerhaus in Linz again. He was happy above all he had the pleasure to listen to the Jazz of the Jim Hall Trio. Jim Hall is one of the famous instrumentalists of his profession. On his side were the drummer Joey Baron and the bassist Scott Colley, both in Halls current band.

2009

International Guitar Festival "Passauer Saiten" (Germany) Satureday, March 7th, 2009
Yvonne Zehner and Jürgen Schwenkglenks performed the opening concert on saturday evening. Both played some solos, but as a duet they were also very impressive. As always, it was very fascinating for us to hear what kind of sounds a guitarist can make with his/her instrument.

Frankfurt Trade Fair for music (Germany) Friday, April 3rd, 2009

On Friday, April 3rd Daniel visited the Frankfurt Trade Fair for Music. This trip was very exhausting, like every time. Nevertheless it was an adventure, beginning with the very start of the trip. But Daniel`s trip continued even after the fair.
He travelled with is friend Wolfgang Jungwirth, and after the Frankfurt Trade Fair they met with friends who are also interested in guitars. There was naturally a lot to discuss. On Sunday they visited Daniel`s colleagues in Baiersdorf, Thomas Eichert and Armin Hanika, who are also guitar makers. On Monday, the last day of their trip, they had a long and very interesting visit in Markneukirchen.

International Guitar Festival Balatonfüred (Hungary) June 20th-27th, 2009

The guitar festival in Balatonfüred was pretty enjoyable, and not as stressful as festivals usually are. It was arranged very well, and because of its familiar atmosphere, Daniel felt very good there. We had free time in the afternoons, and so our kids and I (Kerstin) had some moments with our "papa". We used this opportunity to play on Lake Balaton. In the evenings, Daniel enjoyed several concerts and was overjoyed to meet new acquaintances like Gabriel Bianco, Szilvágyi Sándor, Zoran Dukic, Giampaolo Bandini, Eötvös József and many more.

International Guitar Festival Mikulov (Czech Republic) July 5th-11th, 2009
Daniel was in Mikulov from the 7th until the 10th of July. He enjoyed it very much, and he met up some friends like Paolo Pegaro, who was also pleased to see Daniel again. This time he found time to play Daniel`s guitars.
Paolo invited Daniel to his guitar festival in Italy. Stefano Viola was also pleasantly surprised, and he wants to show his students Daniel´s guitars. I (Kerstin) think that Daniel is happy about these invitations. He will probably be in Udine and Pordenone in November of this year to exhibit his guitars and see his friends again.

International Guitar Festival Esztergom (Hungary) August 2nd-9th, 2009
Daniel was in Eszergom from the 3rd to the 7th of August. Simon, a guitar student from the Bruckner University in Linz, accompanied Daniel. World - famous guitarists like Alvaro Pierri and Leo Brouwer were invited, but Mr. Brouwer unfortunately couldn´t come. Daniel and Simon got to know Otto Tolonen, who played a concert on Wednesday. Afterward Otto, Simon, Daniel´s friend Harold Gretton (Australia), Luis Romao (USA) and Daniel spent an amusing evening together.

International Guitar-Symposium Iserlohn (Germany) August 9th-16th, 2009
The Baltic Guitar Quartet from Lithuania gave concerts in Iserlohn this year too, so Daniel spent also long evenings with these four guitarists this year. Even the friendly guitar Duo Gruber and Maklar and Johannes Tonio Kreusch attended these meetings. One "big disaster" was the cancelled concert of John Williams, who couldn´t play due to an illness. But he was replaced at the last minute by a young, very talented Latin - American guitarist from the USA. Irina Kulikova, whom Daniel met her in Eszergom, played a concert on Saturday.

International Guitar Festival Hersbruck (Germany) August 14th-22nd, 2009
Daniel was in Hersbruck from the 17th to the 20th of August. However shortly beforhand he was "invited" for a root treatment by the dentist without much notice, therefore he couldn´t join the festival as usual.
The famous guitar quartet Los Romeros unfortunately coulnd´t even distract Daniel from his toothache. After the concerts, Daniel´s s terz guitar "Santino" heated up the atmosphere, often far into the wee hours of the morning. At those meetings, Daniel met some tutors again with whom he is acquainted, like Michael Langer, Thomas Fellow, Franco Morone and Carlo Domeniconi (Italy). I (Kerstin) must not forget the special guests Leo Brouwer and the Austrians living in exil, Eli and Ann Kassner. The Kassners escaped befor the Nazi era, first to Israel and after that to Canada, where Eli founded the „Guitar Society of Toronto" in 1956. Eli suggested that he will visit Daniel`s workshop on one of his next trip to Vienna.

Forum Gitarre Wien (Austria) August 30th - September 5th, 2009

XIV International Guitar Festival Pordenone (Italy) November 13th-22nd, 2009
From the 13th to the 19th of November, Daniel and I (Kerstin) visited the Italian guitar festival in Pordenone. Daniel met our host, the Italian guitarist Paolo Pegoraro last year in Mikulov. We had the pleasure to getting to know the guitarists Thomas Offermann, Pablo Garibay, Sabrina Vlaskalic, Petra Polackova, the Trio Nahual and Stefano Viola better. In this context, new ideas were developed, allowing us to return home newly motivated.

2008

After 17 years of experience in the construction of instruments, I have now decided to start my own business.

The opening of the “Master Workshop for Guitar Construction - Daniel Zucali” was a great success.

My invitation met with a large response. The three wonderful concerts of well-known guitarists truly gave the opening a special touch.
Between 150 and 200 people interested in music, who partly had to cover distances of up to 600km, did not miss this one-time chance and got to know firsthand how a guitar is literally constructed; the workshop-concerts were especially met with great enthusiasm. Three well-known musicians revealed what makes a Zucali guitar and all were very impressed.

The morning performance was carried out by Wolfgang Jungwirth (Austria), lecturer at the Bruckner Private University Linz. The guests experienced an exciting tour into the history of guitar, illustrated impressively by selected pieces.

The afternoon was arranged by Christian Haimel (Austria), winner of many international competitions, with a classical concert at the highest stage. His interpretation of Johann Sebastian Bach (amongst others) carried away the audience into a wonderful world of deligthful sounds.

In the evening concert, Rainer Stegmann (Germany) introduced the work of Leo Brouwer. He himself is a passionate exponent of modern classical music und has just launched a new CD on Brouwer.

This opening can surely be seen as an overall success, in no small way thanks to the wonderful decor and the delicacies of pure organic quality prepared by Margarete Pieringer from Haag, Lower Austria.

Serviette, handsigniert von Trio NahualGuitar Festival Mikulov (Czech Republic) June 29th to July 3rd, 2008
It was an honour for Daniel to get to know outstanding personalities such as Leo Brouwer and José Romanillos. Some great friendships developed, like with the Trio Nahual from whom the personal dedication on the handkerchief (see image) comes.

Liechtensteiner Gitarrentage (Liechtenstein) - July 5th-8th, 2008
As expected there were a lot of interesting things to hear and see, and the press took an interest in Daniel. You can see the article at www.ligita.li/bilder/411.pdf.

Guitar Festival Nürtingen (Germany)July 29th-31st, 2008
Besides hearing well-known guitarists from around the world Daniel was happy to hear his good friend and outstanding guitarist Christian Haimel play. After the evening concerts, interesting, informative and amusing conversations took place.
